The Independent Trade Union Association of Cuba urges the government and international community to ensure rights for workers and entrepreneurs.
Havana, Cuba (ASIC) – The Independent Trade Union Association of Cuba (ASIC) has publicly presented a list of demands addressed to the National Assembly of People’s Power, calling for a deep transformation of Cuba’s economic, political, and union models. The document highlights serious violations of workers’ fundamental rights.
The statement, backed by Case No. 3271 currently under review by the ILO Committee on Freedom of Association, denounces systematic repression of independent trade unionists, restrictions on private enterprise, and a legal framework that prevents the full exercise of economic, political, and union freedoms.
The demands include:
- Legal recognition of independent unions.
- Guarantees for free enterprise and fair access to financing.
- An end to retaliation and state harassment against independent workers.
- Tax reform and institutional transparency.
- Free and fair elections with democratic guarantees.
“This platform is not a hostile act, but a firm demand for dignity and fundamental rights of Cuban workers,” said Iván Hernández, Secretary General and ASIC spokesperson.
ASIC reaffirms its commitment to a free, just, and prosperous Cuba, and calls on international organizations, unions, and human rights defenders to support this cause.
